Our listings draw on public registers and research. We also use licensed photographs and map data. Here are the main sources and image credits, including the photographs on our UK homepage.

UK government data

School listings in England come from the Department for Education's Get Information about Schools register, accessed through planning.data.gov.uk. Scottish school listings come from the Scottish Government's school contact details dataset.

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Ofsted inspection reports and judgements quoted on listing pages are Crown copyright and are used under the same licence.

US government and directory data

US public school listings come from the National Center for Education Statistics' Common Core of Data, accessed through the Urban Institute's Education Data Portal. Massachusetts private special-education school listings come from the directory published by the Massachusetts Association of 766 Approved Private Schools. Guidance pages on Medicaid, CHIP and IDEA are written from the federal statute, regulations and agency guidance, which are US Government works and not subject to copyright.

Maps and location

Map tiles and the address lookup that turns your postcode into a distance both come from OpenStreetMap, via its tile service and the Nominatim geocoder. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence.

Listing photos and place details

Listing photographs, street addresses and place categories come from the Google Places API. Each photograph was taken by a Google Maps contributor or by the organisation itself, who holds the copyright in it; where Google supplies the contributor's name we show it on the photograph, and where it does not, the photograph is credited to Google. Place details and photos are powered by Google.

No photograph on this site is taken from a school's, provider's or retailer's own website, and no organisation's logo is reproduced anywhere on it.

Reviews and quotations

Parent and family reviews shown on listing pages are real, sourced quotations, each one labelled with where it was published, linked to that source, and dated to when it was read. They are quoted for the purpose of review and comment. We do not host reviews written on this site, and we do not reproduce anyone else's review collection wholesale. If you wrote a review shown here and would rather it was not, write to us and it will be removed.

Names of organisations

Schools, therapy providers, the NHS, the National Autistic Society, Ofsted and other organisations are named on this site so that parents can find them. Naming them is not a claim of partnership, sponsorship or endorsement, in either direction. No organisation listed here has approved its listing, and none of them pays to appear.

Fonts, icons and software

The site uses the Lexend, Source Sans 3 and Caveat typefaces, all published under the SIL Open Font License and used here under it. Interface icons are from the Lucide icon set, used under the ISC licence. The site is built on Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, Supabase and Leaflet; all are open-source and used under their own licences, which permit commercial use.

The site's own logo, icon and illustrations were made for this project.
