The Play Therapy Space

• What they offer / teach

The Play Therapy Space at the Crossgates Chiropractic Clinic offers one-to-one play therapy sessions for children and young people experiencing emotional distress that affects their behaviour, day-to-day functioning and/or enjoyment of life. Sessions are 50 minutes long, usually weekly, delivered by play therapist Liz Mould, with the number of sessions depending on the severity of difficulties and reviewed at regular intervals. Play materials include music, painting/drawing, sand play and small figures, a dolls house, movement, role-play/dressing-up, malleable resources, books, masks and puppets.

• Ages served

The page says the service is for children and young people but does not state specific ages.

• Approach

Non-directive, child-led play therapy in which the child has complete freedom of choice to play within safe and secure boundaries, expressing themselves verbally, physically or through play resources. The therapist is non-judgemental and fully accepting, creating a trusting therapeutic relationship that helps the child become aware of their feelings, problem-solve and find resolution to emotional struggles. Sessions are confidential as a form of counselling, though progress is discussed at review meetings and the therapist may seek the child's consent to share information with a parent.

• Admissions

The page states that play therapy can be booked at the Crossgates location, with contact by phone (0113 260 0794) or via the website's contact and appointment request forms; no further admissions process is described.
